If yes, You must have played Terraria. The sandbox game that got you hooked instantly was developed by Re-Logic in the year 2011 and has sold around 30 million copies.
Human beings are curious by nature. They naturally behave to roam around their world and discover adventure. This natural behavior was the key ingredient that brought the rise of Terraria and other games that have followed this game since then.
The feeling of never-ending discoveries would pull you deeper and deeper into the game but after knowing and finding everything in the game, there isn’t much for you to do. This is where I’ll help you. I’ve made a list of these fine games which I believe would grab your attention because they are somewhat similar or an alternative to Terraria.
The goal of exploration, crafting, building, and combat shall be fulfilled by the games in my list of 10 best games like Terraria. So do check them.
10 best games like Terraria
Minecraft tops the list while talking about the 10 best games like Terraria because it lets gamers truly experience the concept of the open world. You can embrace creativity in the three-dimensional world of Minecraft and build a world full of your imagination.
If you were left alone in a world with the resources yet to be discovered, would you have the audacity to start from zero?
Then build your own world with the blocks of inspiration. Break them, collect them, and place them in an order to achieve what you want to create. There is freedom in the game without any goals which you should fully take advantage of.
Just a thought; If your life was free like Minecraft without any goals, would you feel happier?
Ahh, forget it. Minecraft is available for PC, mobile, and various other gaming consoles. Go ahead, download the game, and give your feedback in the comments.
Starbound is a game developed by Chucklefish which also meets the requirements of mining, craftsmanship, and battle. The game starts slowly with you having a hard time finding resources but once you’re settled, nothing can stop you from the voyage to the unexplored Starbound Universe.
You’ll have to solve various conflicts going on in the Starbound world to save your galaxy. From barbarous plants to self-aware robots, dungeons to disgraceful government, you’ll find it all in Starbound’s story.
I discovered planets with unique traits, their jungles full of surprises and while I was wandering below the ground found things which I don’t want to spoil for you.
So if you feel like shifting from Terraria to Starbound, I assure you that it isn’t a bad decision.
Don’t Starve Together is another spinoff of the game Don’t Starve and anyone can play this game because of its simplicity. Just like the name suggests, the main objective of the game is to use your resources wisely so that you don’t have to starve.
Looking at the similarity with Terraria, exploration is key in both Don’t starve Together and Terraria. You’ll find enemies hard to kill and difficulties hard enough to torment you for a while before overcoming them.
The artwork of the game is quite unique and the sound work adds a whole new experience. You and your friends are gonna have moments that would last forever in your memories and the game will certainly foster your friendship.
Games like Don’t Starve Together are rare gems and you would totally love to play it with your friends.

Raft is another survival game in my list of 10 games like Terraria and I included it not only because I am a huge fan of the game.
But, it actually teaches us to survive on a Raft which is in the middle of nowhere. But the game is not only about survival, it is about human behavior. Human beings being ambitious creatures, not only think about survival but also luxury. Their motivation to ask for more makes them think and want more.
Your main objective is to gather and build as much as you can in order to survive. Once you know how to collect food and water, the game shall be even more interesting. You can collect resources with the help of animals found around your raft and I found Sharks and Seagulls pretty useful both as antagonists and resource-wise.
If you love to customize and decorate rafts along with testing your survival skills, this is the right game for you.
You might not get the same level of excitement with Crea as you got with Terria but you’ll surely find it easier at the start. It meets the requirement of a crafting game and lightens up your mood with beautiful music.
The skill moves and art of battle which you’ll learn as the game progresses will be of great use once you face the enemies with unique defensive moves and attack patterns. For a PC user in need of a solid 2-D RPG game, this game serves it.
People like us, usually get tired of a genre and stop loving the games that evolved from their forefathers. Well, not in this case. You have a lot of options to do with the crafting/researching system and your crafting ability progresses gradually with your level.
A lot of people believe that Stardew Valley is just another RPG farming game but that isn’t the case. As you dive deep into the game, you’ll know that you have endless options and can play them all to become a Stardew Hero.
Stardew Valley allows you to build a firm relationship with the people of Pelican Town. The game encourages you to befriend everyone you see when you first arrive at the valley. And I loved this social aspect of the game.
The rewarding gameplay and presentation of Stardew Valley are rare and it certainly is worthy to be in this list of 10 best games like Terraria. And if you love building a farming empire, you should definitely dive into the games like Stardew Valley.

7. Junk Jack
“A Wonderful Free-Roam Game with an Irresistible Pixel Aesthetic.” These words say everything about the game. Junk Jack is another sandbox game on the list where you’ll need to survive in a world full of monsters exploring and building your home. Just like Terraria isn’t it? (And that’s why it is on my list of games like Terraria.)
How good are you with the pets? If you love them, how about taming beasts? I’m sure you love breeding them or cooking for them. You can farm exotic plants, collect fishes, and grow flowers with balanced gameplay. I think this would be a fantastic gaming experience with your friends.
All in all, Junk Jack might not exactly give you the freedom of an open world but it definitely lightens up your day with thousands of hidden treasures to find, 600 crafts to think about, and more than 380 block types.
Planet Centauri is another game of monsters and dungeons with quick movements and controls compared to its early descendants. The combat style is livelier than before and the terrain generator is also not that bad.
You can also create your own spells and control patterns and arcs of your fireball. The enemies in the game give you the run for your money which isn’t the same for its alternative like Starbound.
Although the game won’t feel like a proper building simulator, it definitely is a good combat game. And it is the reason why this game made into my list of 10 best games like Terraria.
Another building simulator in my list and it particularly gained its popularity due to its fan base of kids. It’s a gift that keeps on giving as in simple terms, it is a game with many games inside of it.
Roblox is more like a game creation platform where you can use your imagination to create your own game for others to play. Adding more to it, it could be a good platform for you to earn money with the games that you develop in Roblox.
Looking at the reviews about Roblox on the internet, you’ll find a lot of one or two-star reviews that occurred due to the fact that most of the critical reviews are from kids who either forgot their passwords or got their account hacked (pun intended).
If you join an adult community of Roblox, this is really a fun thing to pass your time and is one of the reasons why it made it into the list of 10 best games like Terraria.
Also, if you find this game interesting and would like to take a sneak peek at other games like Roblox, we already posted an article on games like Roblox.

10. Portal Knights
Portal Knights is a 3D sandbox action-RPG game elegantly made with landscapes similar to Minecraft and Monsters similar to Terraria. The game clearly knows how to bring balance between freedom and progression, unlike some other games I’ve mentioned in my list of 10 best games like Terraria.
The development of character in Portal Knights is the trait that makes it unique among its competitions. You have to praise its developers for trying to mix two genres and still come out with this awesome game and yes, it deserves to be in my list of games like Terraria.
